Adopted at the founding meeting of the Sauna Enjoyers Athletic Club. Amended as needed by unanimous vote of the membership, which currently requires agreement from two people.
I. Name and Purpose
1.1 The club shall be known as the Sauna Enjoyers Athletic Club (SEAC).
1.2 The purpose of the club is to participate in athletic activity at an amateur level, to support the athletic endeavors of its members, and to enjoy a sauna afterwards when at all possible.
1.3 The club is not a sauna club. It is an athletic club that also enjoys saunas. This distinction matters to us and we ask that it be respected.
II. Membership
2.1 Membership is open to any person who:
- participates in at least one sport
- is willing to be honest about their times
- does not treat the sauna as optional when one is available post-activity
2.2 There is no minimum standard of performance. Enthusiasm is valued. Showing up is considered an achievement.
2.3 To apply for membership, one must:
- Express interest to a current member
- Participate in at least one activity with the club
- Survive the sauna afterwards
- Be voted in by the existing membership (currently a majority of two)
2.4 There is no membership fee at this time. We reserve the right to introduce one if the club grows to the point where fees would be useful for something.
III. Activities
3.1 The club recognises the following disciplines: running, cycling, swimming, skiing (downhill and cross-country), climbing, and hiking.
3.2 Members are not required to participate in all disciplines. Interest in one is sufficient.
3.3 Members are encouraged to attempt disciplines outside their comfort zone at least once per year. Attempting and hating it counts.
3.4 Results of races and events shall be reported accurately. Rounding down times is not permitted. Citing weather conditions as an excuse is permitted, within reason.
IV. The Sauna
4.1 A sauna session is strongly recommended following any significant club activity.
4.2 “Significant” is defined at the discretion of the participants. A 15-minute jog may or may not warrant a sauna. A half marathon always does.
4.3 Cold plunge after the sauna is encouraged but not mandatory. Mocking members who decline the cold plunge is not permitted, though gentle encouragement is acceptable.
4.4 Club matters may be discussed in the sauna. Decisions made in the sauna are binding.
V. Records
5.1 Club records shall be maintained on the website. See the Records page.
5.2 A new record must be verified by at least one other member, or by GPS data that has not been obviously tampered with.
5.3 Records shall be celebrated, preferably with a sauna.
VI. Amendments
6.1 These rules may be amended by unanimous vote of the full membership.
6.2 Amendments may be proposed at any time, including in the sauna.
